WORKING WITH A RECRUITMENT AGENCY
2M Careers are Technical job recruiters who specialise in technical jobs and construction jobs. However the same principles apply to most employment sectors when resigning from a job and starting a new job. Here is a guide on how to resign from a job, which we hope you will find useful and informative.
Working with a Recruitment Consultant has many benefits, but it should be viewed as a partnership. You must be clear, honest and candid when you work with them, as their ultimate goal is to find you a position that you are happy with, and that will shape your career in the correct direction.
Changing your job has a big impact on your life, not only the direction of you career but also it may affect where you live and your home life as well. Therefore it is very important that all factors that are important to you should be discussed with your consultant before you start looking at vacancies.
It is crucial that any 'knock out' factor is discussed with your consultant, this may be any reason why a job wouldn't be suitable for you - be it location, salary, benefits, role and so on. It often saves you and your consultant a lot of time if any of these issues come up at the start, and means that the interviews you have will fit in with what you are looking for.
Your Recruitment Consultant has knowledge of the market as it is at the moment, they can advise you who they work with and who is actively recruiting for staff.
This section will cover the all the stages we work through: Your CV, Vacancies and Applications, Interviews and Feedback and Offers and Continuing Strategies.
Initially they will interview you, either face to face or over the telephone, and this initial conversation should be where you set out your expectations, preferences and talk about the direction your career will take. It is essential that you are completely honest with your consultant, there is no point holding back information, if we don't know what you want, we cannot help!
At the first stage be prepared to talk through your career history, your CV and your aspirations for the future, as well as your salary expectations. Many people are reluctant to discuss money, but it essential we know what you are on, and what you will move for. Remember we want to get the beast deal for you, so we will never try and sell you short, but also be realistic about the market rates, and what you can achieve. And remember the cliché, money isn't everything
YOUR CV
We will work through your CV with you and if it needs it we will help you by laying it out in way that helps our clients read it clearly, so they can get the information they require easily and quickly. However we NEVER re-write or change the content of your CV, we feel it is unethical as a non technical people to write for you and that's why if there are any gaps or amendments needed we will always ask you to provide us with the information.
If we do ask you to amend your CV for us, it is usually because we feel it is missing something important. The CV is a tool to get you an interview, so it has to be clear, concise and easy to read. You would be surprised how many people forget crucial information on their CV, and if employers can't see the information quickly they may think you don't have the relevant skills or experience.
All information is handled with complete confidentiality, and the provisions of The Data Protection Act are observed at all times. This means that your personal information will never be disclosed unless they have spoken to you first and obtained your consent. We are also fully committed to the policy of equal opportunity in employment, which ensures that no job applicant will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, religion, age, sex, marital status or disability.
VACANCIES AND APPLICATIONS
When we have a clear idea of your needs, we will then talk you through our current vacancies, and any that are of interest to you we will then forward on your details to the relevant clients. As Press Advertising is so expensive nowadays, many practices prefer to use agencies as there is no cost to them until they meet the right person - and they start working for them. You will find that Recruitment Consultants have access to many unadvertised vacancies and they will be able to match up the companies and their vacancies with your experience and career aspirations.
You will not be recommended for any vacancy that you feel you may be unsuitable for due to lack of capabilities or experience.
Hopefully then, this will lead to a number of interviews, however if it doesn't - don't panic! Employers often have very specific needs and it is no reflection on the candidates' ability if we don't secure interviews immediately. The job market is continually in a state of flux, and recruitment needs can change overnight, so the ideal job may just be around the corner.
We can then discuss the next stage and we can be as pro active as you want us to in marketing you to potential employers, and we have a variety of strategies and methods that we can discuss with you and employ.
INTERVIEWS AND FEEDBACK
The next stage is the interview itself, your consultant will help you prepare by providing you with information about the company and their work. We will talk about their ethos, their set up, and provide you with insights that we have gained from working with them over a period a time. Many of our clients have worked with us over a number of years so we can advise of their history and of how previous people we have placed there have got on.
Also remember to prepare in the usual way by looking at their website, doing your homework on their projects and their business. Furthermore we will advise you on interview technique, questions they may ask and how to handle certain interview situations. We want you to be comfortable in the interview and to do your best in the interview so we will help you prepare in any way we can.
After you attend interviews the next stage is to feed back to your consultant how you think it went, and if you are interested in the role. It is important that we receive your feedback as soon as possible after the interview, as sometimes clients can call us quickly, and it is good to be able to provide them with an initial level of interest.
We will then pass your feedback to the client and then await the decision from the client. Quite often there is a time gap between the interview and the client providing a final decision, this is often the case if the client has a number of candidates to see, so don't worry if we don't have any news for a few days. We will also try an answer any further questions you have about the company, or the position. We are always happy to try and help in any way so don't be shy! If you need to know something let us know so we can help you.
Many clients now second interview candidates, this is often the case with senior appointments, and will often happen if there are a number of people that need to have input in the appointment. The second interview can sometimes be used when it a close call between two candidates, however it is mainly used so the client can understand your skills and experience in more depth and assess your suitability. It also affords you to explore the company in more depth and address any further questions or issues that may arise from the first interview.
OFFERS AND CONTINUING STRATEGIES
After the interviews, the client will provide us with feedback, hopefully this will result in the offer of a position that you wish to accept. However if no offer is present, or the offer isn't suitable we will then work with you to discuss how we can continue to help you. We will never try to push you into accepting a position that you have reservations about, it is not good for us, for you, and ultimately for the client if you then want to move again after accepting an unsuitable job.
There are a variety of methods we can use - from aggressive marketing exercises to more passive means of job seeking, which involve us contacting you about specific opportunities that we know you would be interested in. The strategy employed can depend on your current situation and whether you are currently in work at the moment. If you are unemployed or have been made redundant, the need to find a position is often much more urgent and we will do everything in our power to help you find that perfect move.
